Sparks Heritage Museum Tickets

The galleries showcase the "Old West" days of mining, ranching, railroading, and pioneers. The Museum has kindly donated a limited number of free tickets to our matches. Children ages 11 and under are free. Contact your Match Support Specialist for tickets (352-3202).

Match Highlight

Lisa used to feel like she needed to protect herself from bullies and would get into fights at her Middle School. Her Big Sister, Eileen, taught her how to walk away from a fight as well as how to avoid them altogether. Little Sister Lisa is now talking about college and how important it is. Lisa and Eileen are inseparable and starting their second year together.

A Fun and Rewarding Way to Spend a Weekend with your Little

Help raise awareness in your neighborhood about Big Brothers Big Sisters and host a Neighborhood Clothing Drive! We need donations of gently used clothing and small household items. All donations go toward helping us match more children in the community with a mentor. This is an easy and fun way to teach your Little the importance of serving a cause greater than themselves! Call Bill or Dawn at our Donation Center, tell them you are a Big, and ask for more details: (775) 826-2122.

Information for Bigs to use when discussing tobacco with Littles:

The ideas and words you use when talking to your Little about smoking should be tailored to their age. The consequences will be better received.
Ages 6 - 8
Using words like "stinky" and "yucky" can help reinforce the message that you do not approve of smoking.
Ages 9-11
Use visuals: if you see an ad in a magazine that makes smoking look disgusting, cut it out and share it with your Little.
Ages 12-18
Share a connection to a real life health consequence—maybe a friend with lung cancer—with your Little.
